Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesh. In Ganesh Chaturthi, Lord Ganesh is worshiped as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. It is believed that Lord Ganesh was born during Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. Currently Ganesh Chaturthi falls on the month of August or September in the English calendar.

The Ganeshotsav, the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi ends after 10 days on Anant Chaturdashi also known as Ganesh Visarjan day. In Anant Chaturdashi, devotees of Lord Ganesh idol is immersed in the water body after a procession through the streets of gala.

Ganesh Puja during Madhyahana preferred as it is believed that Lord Ganesh was born during Madhyahana Kaal. Madhyahana Kaal is equivalent to half a day according to the Hindu division of the day.

The date of Ganesh Chaturthi falls on the fourth day after the new moon in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. This is August or September each year. It is commonly held for 10-11 days, with the greatest show takes place on the last day called Ananta Chaturdasi.
