The Sydney Morning Herald report that the progressive Skytrax awards nearly 19 million airline passengers from 160 countries around the world to reach the results.
Thomas Cook was fourth, with the monarch in fifth place in the category of entertainment.
And when it comes to low-cost airlines, Asian and American Airlines dominated the list.
While easyJet came in sixth place, Ryanair was not in the top 10 at all.
Air Asia and Air Asia X took first and second low-cost airline, followed by Norway, the airline currently making waves, offering flights from London to the USA from 149 pounds one way.
The World Airline Awards are non-profit and free of any influence from third parties, and any passenger plane in the world can vote.
In June Etihad Airways tried to withdraw classification, citing a disagreement with the classification system, but nevertheless came in ninth. As airlines are chosen by consumers that can not be omitted form the awards.
