How to Find Who has Access to your Files and Folders in the Google Drive

Google Drive will lets you to share the files and folder with contacts and we can also make them public and on the Internet can also view your files on Drive. Sharing also prevents you from clogging someone's mailbox. For example, if you want to send a large file, we can upload the file into Google Drive and share the link instead of sending it as email attachment.

If we are using the sharing feature of Google Docs and Google Drive for some time, you have quite number of files and folders in the Drive that are accessible to other users on your Google Apps domain/ on the pubic Internet. If we want to know which files in Drive are shared with other users and what kind of access permissions they have on your files?

How Can others View or Edit your Drive Files?

The sharing details of files are not accessible in Google Drive but a Google script easily but we can scan Google Drive and prepare a list of all files that have ever been shared from your Google Drive.


In free and premium editions the Drive Privacy script is available. The premium version, shown above, scan the entire Google Drive and prepares a detailed report of all files and folders. You will know who has access to your files and what  kind of permissions they have, when a file was last modified, and where it is located in Google Drive.

To get started with free edition, click to copy the Google Script in our own Google Drive.Then to run the Google Script choose the Run menu and select Start.


Since it needs to check the sharing permissions of the files in your Google Drive the script will ask for authorization. But it is an open-source Google Script that runs inside the Drive and not a single byte of  data is shared outside the account. Click on Authorize and wait while the script get executes.

To complete you will get an email message with a list of shared files that were found in your Google Drive and it will take 2-3 minutes. For privacy report, follow the below screenshot, It will have links to the shared files and also a list of users who can view or edit that particular file. If anyone views the file, the user will be mentioned as a Public.
