Upset over a line of women wearing leggings images of Hindu gods and goddesses, a Hindu group in the United States has urged giant online retailer Amazon to immediately withdraw the product from their website, which he described as inappropriate.

The president of the Universal Society of Hinduism, Rajan Zed, in a statement, said that Hindu gods and goddesses were highly revered in Hinduism and was meant to be worshiped in temples or home shrines and not to be worn around a leg, groin and hips.

Misuse of Hindu deities or concepts for commercial or other agenda, was not right, as it hurts the devotees, Zed said.

Ask Amazon to offer a formal apology, Zed further said that such trivialization of Hindu gods and goddesses haunting the world about the Hindus.

Hindus were for free artistic expression and therefore expression as anyone else, if not more. But faith was something sacred and attempts at trivializing it hurt the followers, Zed added.

Products that have upset Hindus are leggings and pants waist yoga clothing brand Yizzam bearing images of Ganesha, Shiva, Brahma, Vishnu, Muruga, Bajrang Bali, Rama, Radha-Krishna, Kali.
