Travellers industry can now use a mobile application for the entries in the category unreservedly as Indian Railways carries out its initiative for paperless ticketing.

A senior Railway Ministry made the announcement Tuesday, saying. "We are launching an application unreserved ticketing based mobile paperless tomorrow"

The application, called UTS, is now available through the Google Play store. It has been developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS). Having booked a ticket to the application, a traveler need not take a printout of it and can show your electronic copy on the mobile phone to the ETT.

Apart from being a green initiative, the system of paperless ticketing is also aimed at saving time for passengers, allowing them to avoid long lines at the box office.


UTS After downloading the application, users receive a registration ID number for the creation of an electronic wallet. The money for the ticket will have to be loaded via the mobile payment system for electronic purse online or at a ticket counter in any season.

Passengers have the option of supplementing the electronic purse at the box office or at the IRCTC website using a credit or debit card, the official said.

Besides ticket bookings, one can even renew subscriptions using the UTS application, the official said it will be a boon to travelers in the ticketing segment without reservation.

The ticketing system based application was tried in the field of the suburbs of Mumbai, on an experimental basis. A version of the application for BlackBerry devices will be available later.
