How to Get Daily Email Reports of the Google Drive Activity Stream to help you to monitor all the changes to various files and folders contained in the Drive.

Google Drive website includes an Activity Stream to help you to monitor all the changes to various files and folders contained in the Drive. Whether we can upload a file/ move a file from one folder to another/ we can also change the sharing permissions. This is especially useful for users who have shared files in their Drive that can be edited by external users.

The Activity Stream is not available inside the mobile apps and you would have to log into the Google Drive website daily to see what files and folders have recently changed.

How to Know What is Changed in Google Drive

Instead of checking the activity stream manually, you can configure a Google Sheet and it will send you the daily email report of all the files into the Drive that have been created or modified in past 24 hours. And it just takes 30 seconds to set up the monitoring.

1. Make a copy of the Drive Monitor in your Google Drive.

2. Now enter the email address in the cell E1 highlighted in Yellow. The daily email reports will arrive here.

3. Choose Spreadsheet settings and choose your default Time zone from the file menu. The modification time in the report will use this time zone.

4. Go to the Report menu in the Google Drive sheet and choose Authorize. Allow the script access to your Drive it needs to do this to know what has changed.

5. Choose Schedule reports in the Report menu. The script is now running in the background and every 24 hours it will email you the Drive report. You will get the first report immediately.

Finally Close the Google Sheet and it will monitor the file changes in the background, It run once for every 24 hours. If you want to stop the daily email notifications, open the same sheet and choose Uninstall from the menu. Internally a little Google Script is doing all the activities.
