How to Return the Apps If We Accidentally Purchased An App From the Mac App Store

If we purchased an app accidentally from the Mac App Store or if the app is not functioning as expected or if you are experiencing technical issues with an app you can request a refund from Apple. Every app downloaded from the Mac App store may be eligible for refunds but for others in good case, we can also return the app and get back the credit card charges.

The procedure for returning apps to the Mac App Store is not straight forward so here we have an illustrated guide that will walk you through the entire process step-by-step. It will apply to the app purchases made in the last 90 days.

Requesting the Refunds for Mac Apps

Step 1: First Click on this special link phobos.apple.com/purchasehistory and open your app purchase history directly inside iTunes. Alternatively, open iTunes on your Mac and choose Store -> View Account. To see all your recent app purchases click and See All under the Purchase History section.

But you have to open iTunes to see a list of your past purchases this is confusing a bit. The App Store will also show your purchase history but you would be able to return the apps through the App Store.

Step 2: Click on the Report Problem link available on all recent app purchases. If the Mac app is not listed in your recent purchased list, click on the little grey arrow to expand the order that contains your app and click on the Report Problem link against the app that you are looking to refund.

Step 3: It will redirect you to the reportaproblem.apple.com website and you have to specify the reason for requesting a refund for the app. choose “I did not authorize the purchase”/ “Item functions but does not work as expected” and describe the exact issue that you are experiencing with the app.

If the app is responsible for immediate refund, we will get the “Request Refund” button and the refund will be processed in 5 to 7 days. In case of someone from the Apple support team will contact you within 48 hours through the email address associated with Apple ID to resolve your request.
