How to Copy the Email Messages to New Gmail Account or Google Apps Account

If we are moving to a new Gmail/ Google Apps account, easily we can copy all the existing email messages from the old account to the new account by using built-in Mail Fetcher program of Gmail.

For both Gmail and Google Apps for Gmail accounts the Mail Fetcher program is available, which downloads the messages from old account and copy them over to new Google account using POP access. It will import all the old email messages that already exist in your account and also new messages that are arrived after setting up the Mail Fetcher.

This method is only to transfer the entire email account to another address. If we want to transfer a bunch of email messages, go to the Gmail bulk email forwarder.

Copying the Emails to another Gmail Address

1. Go to Gmail Settings in your new email account, click on Accounts and then click Add a POP3 mail account under the setting Check mail from other accounts.

2. Enter the full email address of your old Gmail account in the pop-up window. enter a @gmail.com address/ any other email address that you own. Then Click on Next button.

3. Enter the username and the password of your old Gmail account in the next step. Enable the settings to “Leave a copy of retrieved messages on the server” and “Label incoming messages” to identify the emails fetched from the old address easily.

If you have turned on to 2-factor authentication for old Gmail address, you have to generate app-specific password that you can generate from your Google Account’s security page.

Click on the “Add Account” button then immediately Gmail will start copying old messages to our new email address. The process may take some time to complete based on the size of your mailbox.

How to Copy the Emails from Google Apps to a Gmail Address

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server: pop.gmail.com (Port: 995)
Username: your email address (username@your_domain.com)
Password: your Gmail password (Google Apps)

Click on the Add Account button  and automatically Gmail will fetches the old and new messages from the old Google Apps address to your new Gmail Address.
